Bridge Laws 2007, another book review

I’ve finished typesetting the 2007 Bridge laws in LaTeX, I’ve also uploaded my source code. I’ve done this in preparation for my upcoming directing test, since I’ve just finished 2 weekends of a directing course.

Also, time again for me to borrow books from SCBA! I picked out Right Through The Pack by Robert Darvas and Norma de V. Hart. The blurb at the back of the book mentioned that it was voted “one of the top three bridge books of all time” in an ACBL bulletin. This claim is not wrong at all. Every deal and story from every single card in the pack has a lesson that is worth learning. Some of the squeeze plays may be more difficult to see especially with some of the deals and end positions not being in the most convenient of places. However, there are also a few deals where deceptive play is the key to making the contract. There is even a deal on proper finessing!

I would definitely rate this book an A. Most suitable for advancing intermediate/advanced players. The entertainment value is definitely there. I’ve managed to finish all 330 pages within 3 days. Such is the captivating power of the narrative that I just find myself returning to the book again and again.
